Vegas

The next morning we left Escondido, bound for Las Vegas.  I got to drive on the open road for the first time -  a hair-raising experience for Neil who mistakenly believed that I nearly wiped out two policemen.  I did hand over the wheel to him upon entering the city however.

We stayed two nights at Circus Circus, the cheapest casino and not shoddy.  For $50 a night we got the usual two queen beds and cable television as well as access to the 24 hour casino entertainment.  The circus was pretty average but in Vegas it’s not far to bigger and better things.  The temperatures stayed well above 100F for our two days there, but we still managed to walk nearly the length of The Strip in the middle of the day.  We had a welcome swim in the hotel pool at the end of it.  Over two days we spent about a dollar at the casinos, instead just looking in amazement at the extravagance and accompanying sleaze of the place. Now it has gone upmarket and lost, I believe, a lot of its character. We also visited our third Planet Hollywood.
