Waikiki

Our plane for Honolulu was delayed, and by the time we boarded at midnight Richie was asleep in his wheelchair.  We managed to snatch a few hours’ sleep before landing and organizing a rental car (not a T-Bird this time, dammit.)  The Youth Hostel was disappointing and not value for money, with three flights of stairs, no lift and no air-conditioning, so the next day we found a motel with all mod cons plus a swimming pool.  After the obligatory swim at Waikiki Beach we decided since we had a car we would drive around Oahu, partly so I could see the famous Sunset Beach with its gigantic swells.  Unfortunately because it was summer the sea was flat but at least I can say I’ve been there.  The drive was interesting anyway, and we managed to squeeze in one more factory outlet.  Richie squeezed in yet another McDonalds to add to his list of fine food outlets visited.  Our favourite was probably Taco Bell because of the Mexican flavours, but Burger King and Wendys were tolerable.  Of course on our last night we had to visit Planet Hollywood and that still ranked the best in choice of menu and entertainment value.
