After visiting one of many
factory outlets in search of jeans and Nikes amongst other things, we made our
way to Santa Monica, from where we were to fly out in two days to Hawaii, the
final leg of our trip. On this day O J Simpson was declared innocent and
acquitted, so the whole place was buzzing.
We made a brief sojourn into LA itself that night, in pursuit of the
Hollywood sign. After two hours we got
as close as we could, which wasn’t really close enough. It was a very slow and frustrating drive
through the opulence of Rodeo Drive and the grime of Hollywood. Santa Monica and Venice Beach were much more
interesting, but certainly not Baywatch and not nearly as nice as our much more
accessible beaches Down Under. The best thing to do there is people-watching.
